Have you ever had the best of intentions to do a good deed but for one reason or another just could not accomplish the task, due to road block after road block? Sadly, this happens to me more times than I want to admit. Lately, though, God has been taking away those road blocks and forcing me to follow through.
For the past few years my family has helped one family at Christmas and Easter time. For Easter we have purchased groceries for their Easter dinner, eggs and the necessities for coloring, as well as made baskets ( these usually turned into huge gift bags of toys and novelties accompanied by a brown paper bag of snacks and candy per child ,because so many people that I know would donate to the cause)However, this year this family is doing pretty well. My original intent was to find another family to help but for some reason or another, I haven't. Yesterday while my family and I were having breakfast between masses with the rest of the cast members of the Palm Sunday dramatization. (BTW Thank you David, everything was delicious !) I was thinking that time had gotten away from me and I never found an " Easter Good deed" for this year. Oh well I thought,I'll do better next time.
Not even half an hour later, I was approached by Kim, Are you free on Friday she asked? It seems as though the soup kitchen at which our church volunteers has never been open on Good Friday. When asked why, the answer was; that though churches in the area cover all other Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, nobody was ever available on Good Friday.Upon hearing this, Kim took it upon herself to find volunteers. I agreed to help and even realized that Mike was off and asked him .
Of course Kim found the ten people that were needed so the kitchen will be open on Good Friday. Maybe this will become our families new Lent/ Easter project.
It just goes to show that I shouldn't sweat finding a good deed to do but just open myself to God's will and he will find me one !
