My Memorial Day Blessing
I was reluctant to mention Mike and my Memorial Day Blessing for a few reasons. All of which have been taken care of soooooooooo. The big news is that the airline tickets that I purchased for our coming family vacation went down in price significantly. No I am not stupid ( OK now be nice :-)I realize that this should upset me,after all I did spend over two hundred dollars that I didn't have to. But We had a low price guaranteed and though this guarantee would not refund us any money, they credited us with airline credit. Normally this would not make me happy at all but since it was such a big difference and flights were at such good deals, Mike and I had enough credit ( minus security fees and taxes of course which had to be paid in cash anyway)for the two of us to fly to the place of our honeymoon (twenty years ago July) on our anniversary. Due to so many things we are only staying for two days and one night but it sounds wonderful to me. See when Mike and I married, we were both poor college students. The only reason that we had a Honeymoon was because Mike worked for Day's Inn and one of their benefits were that they could stay at any Day's inn anywhere for $10 a night. Our Honeymoon consisted of driving Mike's junker of a car to Disney. It took us two days to get there which caused Mike to develop superficial phlebitis in his leg, which caused him flu like symptoms ( chills, fever, lethargy) Believe it or not this didn't totally ruin our Honeymoon but it did put a damper on a few of our plans. Thankfully Mike's symptoms had lessened and he was able to drive home when our couple days there had ended, though all was not peachy then either. It seemed that Mike's car picked this time to spring a leak and started overheating. Unfortunately there was not much that we could do as we had to be home to go back to work ( to pay the rent) so we filled up water containers, filled the trunk and any available space in the car and were off.As Mike drove despite his painful leg, I sat with my legs( or arm) out the window. When I felt the drops of water( from the leak) we pulled over and added a couple gallons. Praise God we did make it home on time but Mike required medical attention and time off work , and his car required a trip to the junk yard, though it had to settle for some repairs . Mike and I have come to laugh at our rocky start as husband and wife and even joke about how he "Got sick" just to avoid the lobster dinner that he promised me but we couldn't afford. Anyway since God blessed us with the credit for this little trip, we decided that we would fly down , get the lobster dinner that we have waited twenty years for at a lobster /Prime rib buffet, stay the night in a Honeymoon suite with a real jacuzzi tub, spend a little time enjoying Florida, and fly back home. Yes God knows that we have made the best of some not so great times and even though God also knows that it hasn't always been done with a smile, has blessed us with this opportunity ! We couldn't be happier, though we pray for a little less drama this time !
